A plan to invest £127,000 in new allotment plots has been given the green light by the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee (Wednesday).
The proposal, as part of the Town Hall’s investment plans for the year ahead, will see allotment sites in Bebington and Wallasey expanded to try to meet demand. There are currently more than 1,000 on the waiting list for a plot.
Councillor Tom Anderson, who chaired the all-party working group that came up with the plan, said: “This plan is the result of the calls by the Wirral Allotments Society and the many people who have been waiting, patiently, for plots for far too long.
“I would also like to thank, in particular, Councillors Muspratt, Lewis and Cooke, for their work to bring make this plan a reality.
“Hopefully this will be the start of us growing more of our own food here in Wirral, which is better for everyone concerned.”
