It has been announced that a further £3 million is being paid to Wirral Council by the Government to support the Borough during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This brings the total value of grants paid to Wirral Council to just under £100 million.
Cllr. Jeff Green, Chair of the Council’s Audit & Risk Management Committee, said: “The Government and the Council have worked well together to make sure the extra cash we are being given is being used quickly to support those who need it most – small businesses, care homes, the vulnerable and low paid.
“It will take a long time for our Borough, and the Council, to recover but this £100 million, with more still to come, is making a big difference.”
Across the Liverpool City Region, councils will receive an extra £17.4 million following today’s announcement by the Secretary of State.
Local Government Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP added: “Councils are playing a vital role in our national fight against coronavirus, providing a lifeline for so many and supporting communities at a time when they need it most.
“That’s why we are giving them an extra £500 million – taking our total additional funding provided to £4.3 billion – and today I am setting out how this will be allocated to councils fairly based on the pressures they have told us they are facing.
“This comes on top of the co-payment scheme announced last week that will compensate councils for irrecoverable income losses from sales, fees and charges.”
