After an arduous five-year effort, collaboration among councillors from Hoylake, Meols, and Central West Kirby has finally led to a pivotal vote on a forthcoming beach management plan. This plan is viewed as the cornerstone for a significant advancement going forward. Jenny Johnson, our Wirral West Conservative candidate, has stood in lockstep with local councillors Max, Tony, and Andrew, engaging with residents and community groups to maintain pressure on council officials and opposition factions.
During the WBC Environmental committee meeting on April 15th, a majority of committee members endorsed the Option 2 plan (the amenity beach option). This choice, backed by 67.3% of residents in the consultation, signifies a resounding victory.
This majority had been emphasised by local councillors for years. Wirral, being a leisure peninsula, relies heavily on its beaches. Not swampy shores, but sandy ones, accessible and enjoyable for families and our future generations. The Green Party attempted to solidify their extreme legacy, with their proposal, rooted in extreme politics, potentially threatening the crucial access for RNLI units in Hoylake (thankfully this vote was not progressed forward).
While further efforts lie ahead, our dedicated local councillors in Hoylake, Meols, and Central West Kirby, alongside Jenny Johnson, remain committed to advocating for residents' interests.
